Encaustic art is the process of applying beeswax and other mediums to photographic prints, transforming them by adding depth, rich texture, and enhanced colour. The result is a luminous, layered piece that elevates photographic imagery into something truly extraordinary.

Led by an experienced encaustic artist, this event offers an in-depth look at the creative process β€” from the materials and tools used, to live demonstrations of technique. You’ll also have the opportunity to try your hand at working with wax and experience the tactile, meditative quality of the medium.

What to Expect

  • Live demonstration of encaustic techniques on photographs by Esther Towler
  • Hands-on opportunity to try the wax medium yourself
  • Insight into the creative process, materials, and tools
  • Q&A and discussion with the artist
  • Exclusive early access and pricing for an upcoming full-day encaustic workshop

Plus, a creative talk with Anchen Bamford, artist and founder of A.B. Art Studios, sharing her journey of using art as a catalyst for change.

Whether you’re an artist, photographer, or simply curious about new creative mediums, this demonstration offers an inspiring gateway into the world of encaustic.

Creative Talk: β€œWhy Art?” – Art as Purpose, Connection & Community

Anchen will explore the role of creativity in community building, purpose-finding, and personal empowerment. From leading a nonprofit supporting women through art, to launching Why Art? – a talk series inviting voices from across industries – Anchen shares how art shapes our lives no matter what sector we’re in.

Her mission is to inspire those who feel β€œnot creative” to discover expressive outlets that help them thrive. Whether you’re from the charity sector, business world, or simply seeking more colour in your life, this talk invites you to see art not just as a skill β€” but as a powerful way to connect, heal, and grow.

About the Artists

Esther Towler

As a fine art horse photographer, Esther finds one of the most moving sights in the world to be a horse running free β€” an expression of pure freedom, spirit, and beauty. This sense of wild, emotive abandonment is what first drew her to photography and continues to fuel her creative journey. Horses stir something deep within us, embodying a connection to nature that feels both powerful and fragile. Esther’s work is rooted in a deep care for the natural world, particularly the landscapes where wild and rare native breed horses live. She believes that art connects on an emotional level and has the power to spark awareness and inspire people to look beyond themselves. Through her photography, she captures the beauty and vulnerability of these animals in their natural environments, hoping to highlight their importance and the need to protect their future.

Anchen Bamford

Through workshops, exhibitions, and advocacy initiatives, she helps people reconnect with creativity – especially those who feel they aren’t β€œartistic”.
