Description
“Garden of Life” is an expressive and heartfelt painting, deeply inspired by the themes of new beginnings and the profound journey of motherhood. Created in 2014 in Cape Town, this acrylic on canvas piece measures 60 x 50 cm and captures a moment of reflection and transformation.
This painting was born from a deeply personal time I was expecting my first daughter. It represents a period of introspection and embracing the essence of femininity and the miracle of bringing new life into the world. Influenced by a book of paintings and poetry, particularly the thought-provoking question, “Why did God make pink?” the artwork explores the beauty and significance of creation and growth.
“Garden of Life” was conceived during a challenging period when I found myself in the hospital during her last trimester. This experience brought a realisation that life must slow down and change, much like the garden depicted in the painting. The vibrant yet tranquil garden symbolises the energy and nurturing required to cultivate new life, emphasising that this energy must come from a place of rest and peace.
Through bold, expressive brushstrokes and a rich palette, the painting pays tribute to motherhood and the cycles of life. It celebrates the beauty of embracing new seasons and the importance of taking time to rest and breathe in the blossoms. “Garden of Life” invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys and the delicate balance of nurturing new beginnings with care and serenity.
